Will Poland drag NATO into Ukraine’s war?

Poland is expected to invoke article 4 of the NATO treaty, looking for consultation within the alliance concerning the threat to its security.

Keeping in mind that article 4 is generally considered the beginning point for major NATO operations. It officially calls for consultation when an emergency strikes and military intervention is required. As it says, when “the territorial integrity, political independence or security of any of the parties is threatened.”

This urgency has erupted as a result of Russian drones entering Poland’s airspace early on Tuesday night and early on Wednesday, marking this first direct military engagement of Poland where they had to intercept these drones. Beginning a new phase of conflict with Moscow since the Kremlin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in 2022.
