Webb Telescope Captures Its First Newly Discovered Exoplanet

Jarida Report

The James Webb Space Telescope has detected and directly imaged a brand-new exoplanet—TWA 7 b—a Saturn‑mass gas giant orbiting a 6‑million‑year‑old star about 110 light‑years away in the constellation Antlia  . Using its MIRI coronagraph, this marks JWST’s first new exoplanet discovery by direct imaging, and the least massive one imaged yet  . The planet resides in a debris disk with concentric rings, hinting at complex formation processes. This breakthrough underscores JWST’s powerful capabilities and paves the way for future imaging of even smaller, potentially habitable worlds.
