The United States administration has formally requested that Israel cease its recent airstrikes targeting Syrian government forces in southern Syria’s Druze-majority areas, particularly around Sweida, after heavy clashes erupted between Druze militias and Bedouin fighters. The strikes, including hits on military headquarters near Damascus and the presidential palace, were conducted by Israel to protect the Druze community and enforce a demilitarised buffer zone. Israel reportedly agreed to pause these strikes Tuesday evening, pending further diplomatic engagement. U.S. Envoy Tom Barrack and Secretary of State Marco Rubio engaged in consultations with both Israeli and Syrian officials to de-escalate the conflict and urge dialogue instead of military action. The recent airstrikes have killed and wounded civilians and military personnel, heightening international concern over regional stability.
