US Urges India to Avoid Escalation After Pahalgam Attack, Calls for Regional Restraint

In response to the April 22, 2025, terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people, U.S. Vice President JD Vance expressed hope that India’s reaction would not escalate into a broader regional conflict.  He emphasized the importance of Pakistan cooperating with India to address militants operating from its territory. While the U.S. condemned the attack and supported India, it refrained from directly blaming Pakistan. Secretary of State Marco Rubio engaged in diplomatic efforts, urging both India and Pakistan to de-escalate tensions and work towards a peaceful resolution.
