UN: Nearly 70% of 233,000 Afghan Returnees from Iran in June Were Deported

From June 1 to 28, 2025, a total of 233,941 Afghans returned from Iran to Afghanistan, with 131,912 of those returns happening during the week of June 21–28. According to the International Organization for Migration, around 70% of these returns were involuntary deportations. In total for the first half of the year, 691,049 Afghans returned, driven by increasing pressure from Iranian authorities and looming July 6 deadline for undocumented migrants to leave Iran
