The New York high-level debates by the UN General Assembly concluded with a bitter parting of ways on climate finance. Leaders of the developing countries urged the developed countries to fulfill their promise to reduce the amount of money they can spend per year on climate adaption claiming that the developed nations were stalling and leaving the vulnerable states to take the impact of the calamities.
Various island countries complained that resilience funds commitments have not been fulfilled, and they are vulnerable to rising sea levels and hurricanes. The European and North American delegates responded by giving reiterations of commitment, but nothing new.
It was observed that the outcome highlighted the increasing divide between the Global North and South, and cast doubt on effective progress before November and the COP30 meeting in Brazil.
