Today, the United Kingdom has imposed sanctions on Russia on a large scale, halting 70 Russian oil tankers related to the so-called shadow fleet of Moscow, and imposing a blacklist of 30 companies and individuals who supply materials to create weapons. The Foreign Office indicated that the action is meant to reduce the revenue on secretive oil export and interfere with the movement of electronics, chemicals, and explosives involved in the Russian military sector.
Yvette Cooper, the Foreign Secretary emphasized that Britain will keep on consulting allies to pressurize Moscow as it intensifies missile and drone attacks in Ukraine and continues violating NATO airspace. The new steps highlight the London policy of sealing off loopholes that have seen Russia evade the previous restrictions.
