Two Dead, Dozen Injured as Severe Rains Lash Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

On May 27, 2025, severe thunderstorms and strong winds caused widespread damage across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), resulting in at least two fatalities and injuring over a dozen individuals.

Key Incidents:

  • In Swabi District’s Manki village, a two-year-old child was killed when a boundary wall and roof collapsed due to strong winds. The child’s mother and another child were injured and hospitalized.
  • In Shangla District’s Bisham tehsil, lightning struck a house, killing one person and leaving six others unconscious.
  • In Peshawar, seven individuals were injured in various rain-related incidents, including a billboard falling on a car in Hayatabad and roof collapses in Mattani and Garhi Qamardin areas.
  • Additional incidents were reported in Nowshera, where a wall collapse injured a young man, and in Ziarat Cham Baba, where a shed roof collapse trapped a mother and son under debris.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department had earlier issued warnings for more rain and gusty winds in the upper and central parts of the country. The World Meteorological Organization has forecasted above-normal rainfall and temperatures for South Asia during this year’s southwest monsoon season.

Rescue operations are ongoing, and authorities are urging residents to remain cautious and adhere to safety advisories.
