Trump Announces Landmark U.S.-U.K. Tariff Deal to Ease Trade Tensions and Boost Exports

Jarida Report

On May 8, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced a new trade agreement aimed at reducing tariffs and improving economic ties. The deal keeps a 10% baseline tariff on most U.K. goods but offers key concessions: the U.S. will cut auto import tariffs and eliminate steel and aluminum tariffs, while the U.K. will reduce tariffs on U.S. ethanol and beef. It also includes a $10 billion Boeing aircraft purchase by the U.K. and duty-free Rolls-Royce engine imports by the U.S. The agreement is seen as a breakthrough in de-escalating trade tensions, though its overall economic impact is expected to be modest.
