In Jacobabad, one of the world’s hottest cities, a vital water purification project is at risk due to a $1.5 million funding freeze resulting from U.S. President Donald Trump’s foreign aid embargo. The project, initiated by USAID in 2012 with a $66 million grant, supplies 1.5 million gallons of clean water daily to approximately 350,000 residents. Pakistani non-profit HANDS, responsible for the project’s sustainability, has withdrawn 47 staff members and services due to the funding halt, jeopardizing the city’s access to clean water amid intensifying heatwaves.Â
