Teenager Dies of Suspected Heatstroke as Karachi Endures Scorching Temperatures

Jarida Report

On Friday, May 30, 2025, a teenage boy, approximately 15 years old, was found deceased in the Murad Kalmati Goth area of Moachko, Karachi. He was brought to Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital, where a post-mortem examination suggested heatstroke as the likely cause of death.

The incident occurred as Karachi experienced a significant heatwave, with average temperatures reaching 40°C and some areas, like Gulistan-i-Jauhar, recording 40.1°C. Morning humidity levels were noted at 60%. The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasted continued hot and humid conditions over the weekend, with temperatures expected to range between 37°C and 39°C.

The heatwave extended beyond Karachi, affecting various parts of Sindh province. On the same day, Mohenjo-Daro recorded the country’s highest temperature at 48°C, while Dadu, Jacobabad, and Shaheed Benazirabad each experienced temperatures of 47°C.

The Met Office has predicted that very hot and dry weather conditions are likely to persist in most districts of Sindh over the next 24 hours.

This tragic incident underscores the severe impact of extreme heat conditions, particularly on vulnerable populations such as the homeless.
