Taiwan Updates Civil Defense Guide to Counter Rising Threats from China

Jarida Report

The next week, Taiwan will publish an updated civil defense guide providing its citizens with a better understanding of how to react in the event of a possible emergency, such as military aggression by China. The 29-page guide contains guidelines, like finding bomb shelters, assembling emergency kits and knowing false surrender calls- all of which are meant to help people not to panic in case of emergency.

The revision, according to officials, is influenced by recent regional and international conflicts to ensure civilians’ preparedness. The handbook is one among the wider attempts by Taipei to build national resilience, with increasing military exercises around the island by Beijing, highlighting concerns of possible escalation.
