The Sindh government, in collaboration with the Allah Wale Trust, has launched the “School Khana Program” to provide free daily hot meals to students in underprivileged areas. Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah inaugurated the initiative at Government Boys Primary School in Murad Memon Goth, Malir, where 700 students will receive one free meal daily. The program aims to improve children’s learning abilities and bring out-of-school children back to classrooms by addressing nutritional deficiencies that hinder their development. Centralized kitchens will prepare and deliver warm food, and facilities for handwashing before and after meals will be provided. To assess the program’s impact, students’ Body Mass Index (BMI) will be recorded before the program’s launch and again after four months. The initiative is expected to expand to other schools, ultimately benefiting nearly 100,000 schoolchildren in underprivileged areas.
