Russia launched 595 drones and 48 missiles overnight attacking Kyiv as one of the most severe attacks since the outbreak of the war. Air defense of Ukraine claimed to shoot down 568 drones and 43 missiles but at least four individuals were killed and dozens were injured. Strikes destroyed power facilities leaving several neighbourhoods without power supply. The attack also caused neighboring Poland to temporarily shut southeastern airspace on security grounds. Ukrainian authorities termed the attack as a bid to paralyze the strength of Kyiv before the winter sets in.
President Volodymyr Zelensky urged Western allies to accelerate the provision of air defense equipment, saying that the size of the Russian offensive was indicative of an attempt by Moscow to wear Ukraine down both militarily and psychologically.
