Riots Erupt in Nagpur Over Aurangzeb’s Tomb, Film ‘Chhaava’ Blamed

Jarida Report

Violence erupted in Nagpur, Maharashtra, following protests by right-wing groups demanding the demolition of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb. The unrest escalated after rumors of a religious text being desecrated, leading to clashes that injured at least 34 police officers and five civilians, and resulted in property damage. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attributed the heightened tensions to the recent release of the film ‘Chhaava,’ starring Vicky Kaushal, which portrays the life of Maratha ruler Sambhaji Maharaj and has reignited public anger against Aurangzeb. Authorities have imposed an indefinite curfew in affected areas to restore order.
