Rawalpindi Police Arrest Key Suspect in College Student’s ‘Honour’ Killing

On February 14, 2025, Rawalpindi police arrested the primary suspect in the alleged  honour killing of a first-year college student. The victims uncle is accused of poisoning his niece due to suspicions about her personal relationships. After her death, he reportedly attempted to conceal the crime by burying her to suggest a natural death. Following the exhumation of the body and a post-mortem examination, the uncle was taken into custody. Authorities are conducting raids to apprehend additional suspects and have sent samples to a forensic laboratory for further analysis. This incident highlights the ongoing issue of honour killings in Pakistan, where, according to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, 346 people were killed in such crimes between January and November 2024.
