Punjab Sets 3.5 Million Acres Target for Cotton Cultivation

Jarida Report

The Punjab government has set an ambitious target of cultivating 3.5 million acres of cotton during the current season to boost exports and revitalize the textile sector. As of early May, over 2.2 million acres have already been sown, with the final sowing phase continuing until May 25. A special incentive package aims to transform Bahawalpur division into a ‘Cotton Valley’. Efforts include selecting model farms, ensuring adequate canal water supply, and providing guidance for early-sown cotton care. Agriculture Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo emphasized the importance of increasing cotton production for export enhancement.
