Pro-EU Warsaw Mayor Trzaskowski Leads First Round of Polish Presidential Vote

Jarida Report

In the first round of Poland’s 2025 presidential election, pro-European centrist and Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski narrowly led with 31.36% of the vote, just ahead of nationalist historian Karol Nawrocki, who secured 29.54%. The two will face off in a runoff on June 1. The combined vote share of right-wing and far-right candidates exceeded 50%, indicating that Nawrocki may have a larger pool of potential supporters to draw from in the second round. Analysts suggest that the next two weeks will be crucial, with both candidates vying to attract voters from eliminated candidates. The election outcome will significantly impact Poland’s future direction, particularly concerning its relationship with the European Union and domestic reforms.
