The U.S.Geological Survey reported that on Saturday, September 13, 2025, a powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake shook offshore in the east of the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia. The quake struck almost 39.5 kilometers deep in the ground, shaking the seismically active area but not reporting any casualty or significant damages.
After the tremor, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center had confirmed that the earthquake was not a tsunami threat. Kamchatka is also a region of the Pacific “Ring of Fire, so it is often vulnerable to massive earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. The Russian authorities are keeping the situation under control, asking people not to leave their premises in case of aftershocks. It has been one of the strongest quakes to strike the area this year.
