On May 2, 2025, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called on Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations to encourage India to de-escalate tensions in South Asia following the deadly Pahalgam attack in occupied Kashmir. The April 22 assault resulted in 26 deaths, mostly tourists, and has strained relations between India and Pakistan.

In separate meetings with Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Saeed Al-Maliki, UAE Ambassador Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi, and Kuwait’s Ambassador Nasser Abdulrahman Jasser, PM Shehbaz emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to peace and stability in the region. He condemned terrorism in all its forms and rejected India’s unsubstantiated accusations linking Pakistan to the attack. The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s call for a neutral international investigation into the incident.

PM Shehbaz also highlighted Pakistan’s focus on consolidating its recent economic gains and assured that the country would not act irresponsibly to jeopardize its progress or regional peace. He expressed gratitude to the Gulf allies for their longstanding support and solidarity with Pakistan.

The Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar, have issued statements emphasizing de-escalation and peaceful resolution, reflecting their interest in maintaining regional stability.
