PM Modi Receives G7 Summit Invitation Amid Renewed India-Canada Engagement

Jarida Report

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has confirmed his attendance at the upcoming G7 summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, scheduled for June 15–17, 2025. Initially absent from the list of invited Global South leaders, Modi announced on Friday that he had received an invitation from Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. This development follows a period of strained India-Canada relations, particularly after the 2023 assassination of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada, which led to mutual diplomatic expulsions and allegations of foreign interference. The invitation is perceived as a step towards mending bilateral ties. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Modi expressed gratitude for the invitation and emphasized the importance of mutual respect and shared democratic values between the two nations.
