The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has barred the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) from arresting former Chief Minister Mahmood Khan in connection with a decade-old corruption case. The case pertains to allegations that, during his tenure as provincial sports minister, Khan transferred Rs1.8 million of government funds to his personal account for distribution among athletes.
Khan’s legal counsel argued that the inquiry, initiated in 2024 based on an anonymous source report, is politically motivated, especially following the 2024 general elections that brought his rivals to power. The PHC has issued notices to ACE officials and scheduled the next hearing for June 18, consolidating Khan’s petition with a related case involving former Additional Director General of Sports, Tariq Mahmood.
