Pakistani Weddings were once seen as a time of happiness, togetherness and new beginnings. They were once about love, about family and about loud laughter that would echo in the hallways of a house. They were once about love, about family and about loud laughter that would echo in the hallways of a house. Pakistani weddings were intimate family gatherings, filled with heartfelt customs and simple ceremonies. However, in recent years the wedding culture has taken a tremendous turn.

Modern day Pakistani weddings are becoming less about celebrating love and family, and more about showcasing social status and wealth. It feels like weddings are now less about two people starting a new life but it’s more about proving a point to the society. There’s a pressure of proving you are rich enough. Your family is grand enough and proving your wedding will trend on Instagram.

Why Pakistani Weddings Are Becoming More About Wealth Than Love

Why Pakistani Weddings Are Becoming More About Wealth Than Love

The wedding halls keep getting bigger. The stages keep getting extravagant. The bridal dresses keep getting heavier. The food menu? It’s no longer just about serving your guests. It’s about offering 10 different dishes just so people won’t say “Bas yahi tha?” There’s this unspoken competition between families now. Who had the better decor? Which bride wore more expensive designers? Who booked the most popular makeup artist? Who had the celebrity photographer? The worst part is half the people attending… They don’t even care about the bride and groom. They’re just there to judge and pass comments.

What happened to the simplicity and intimacy of a wedding event? Why have we turned such a beautiful thing into the most stressful thing ever? Families take loans. Parents drain their entire life savings. Just to keep up. Just to silence the whispers of “Log kya kahenge?” Somewhere, in all this noise, the actual nikah becomes just another small part of the day. A few rushed minutes squeezed between photo sessions and dance performances. It’s ironic, isn’t it? A day that’s supposed to mark the start of love and togetherness… ends up causing fights over money, stress over guest lists, and anxiety about appearances.

At the end of the day, weddings aren’t just about the fancy venues and over the top cakes, it’s more about two people, their families, and the start of something real. It’s time we bring back the close intimate weddings that we will actually look back to one day and remember the day as a memorable one.
