Pakistan to Brief UN Security Council on India’s Aggressive Actions and Regional Tensions

Jarida Report

Pakistan has decided to brief the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) regarding India’s recent actions, which it deems aggressive and provocative. This decision follows the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, where 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed. India attributed the attack to cross-border elements, a claim Pakistan denies, calling for a neutral investigation instead .

In response to the escalating tensions, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has directed Ambassador Asim Iftikhar, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, to convene a UNSC meeting. The aim is to inform the Council about India’s actions, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and military posturing along the Line of Control (LoC), which Pakistan views as threats to regional peace and security .

Domestically, Pakistan has reinforced its military readiness and is engaging in diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation. A high-level briefing involving political leaders and military officials was conducted to discuss national security and the country’s defensive preparedness .

The international community, including the United Nations and the United States, has called for restraint from both India and Pakistan to prevent further escalation .
