Pakistan Rejects India’s Criticism of UNSC Over Kashmir Issue

Jarida Report

On March 20, 2025, Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) responded to remarks made by Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi. Jaishankar had criticized the UN Security Council (UNSC) and its members for equating India and Pakistan over the Kashmir issue, suggesting that an invasion was turned into a dispute, placing the attacker and victim on par.

FO Spokespersonu Shafqat Ali Khan countered these assertions, emphasizing that it was India that brought the Jammu and Kashmir issue to the UN in 1948. He stated that India has no right to blame the UNSC and its members for the subsequent resolutions. Khan reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognized disputed territory, with its final status to be determined by its people through a UN-supervised plebiscite, as stipulated in relevant UNSC resolutions.

Pakistan maintains that a peaceful settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in accordance with UNSC resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, is essential for lasting peace in South Asia.
