Pakistan Calls for Global Effort to Block Illicit Arms Flows to Terrorist Groups in Afghanistan

Jarida Report

At a recent UN Security Council meeting, Pakistani diplomat Syed Atif Raza highlighted the urgent need to address the illicit flow of modern weapons to terrorist groups like the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), both active in Afghanistan. He noted that these groups exploit Afghanistan’s instability to launch cross-border attacks into Pakistan.

Raza expressed concern over the vast stockpiles of abandoned weapons in Afghanistan, suggesting these arms are being funneled to terrorist organizations. He called for global collaboration to recover these weapons, prevent their acquisition by militant groups, and dismantle the illicit arms markets fueling regional instability.

This appeal underscores Pakistan’s growing frustration with the Afghan Taliban’s perceived inaction against cross-border terrorism and the unchecked proliferation of weapons within Afghanistan. The international community’s response to this call for action will be crucial in shaping the region’s security landscape.
