Over 1,000 Syrians Died in Assad-Era Airport Prison

Jarida Report

A report by the Syria Justice and Accountability Centre (SJAC) has revealed that over 1,000 Syrians died from execution, torture, or maltreatment at the Mezzeh military airport near Damascus during Bashar al-Assad’s regime. The SJAC identified seven mass grave sites associated with these deaths using witness testimonies, satellite imagery, and documents obtained from the airport following Assad’s ouster in December. The Mezzeh facility detained approximately 29,000 individuals between 2011 and 2017. The new Syrian government has prohibited former regime officials from public commentary on these findings.
