Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mohammad Ilyas was fatally injured in a traffic accident after unidentified assailants fired upon his vehicle in Nowshera district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The incident occurred early in the morning as ASI Ilyas was returning home from duty at the Nowshera Cantt Police Station. Upon reaching the army farm area near Nowshera, attackers opened fire, causing him to lose control of his vehicle, which then veered into a ditch, resulting in his immediate death. Â
The body was transported to a nearby hospital for legal formalities, and a search operation has been initiated to apprehend the unidentified suspects. Authorities have not yet determined whether the attack was an act of terrorism or an attempted robbery. Â
Funeral prayers for ASI Ilyas were held in Nowshera, attended by numerous police personnel, district administration officials, military members, and local dignitaries. He was subsequently buried in his native village of Kheshgi Payan with full official honors. Â
This incident follows recent attacks on police stations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat and Peshawar districts, where authorities repelled assaults, including a grenade attack in Peshawar’s Malazai area and an attack on the Gambila police station in Lakki Marwat by up to 16 assailants. Â
