A key committee of the National Assembly has approved the Civil Servants (Amendment) Bill 2025, allowing the federal government to shut down, merge, or restructure departments as part of a major rightsizing move.
While the bill gives the government more flexibility to streamline its operations, it also promises that affected employees will receive fair compensation. Lawmakers stressed that efforts should be made to relocate surplus staff to other departments whenever possible.
The committee also passed the Asaan Karobar Bill 2025, aimed at making it easier to do business in Pakistan, and approved changes to strengthen training at the National School of Public Policy.
These reforms are part of a broader push to modernize the civil service and make government more efficient without ignoring the welfare of public servants.
