Mir Ali Sit-In Over Alleged Drone Strike Ends Following Agreement

Jarida Report

On May 27, 2025, residents of Mir Ali in North Waziristan concluded their week-long sit-in protest against a suspected drone strike that resulted in the deaths of four children and injuries to five others. The protest ended after a four-point agreement was reached between the local administration and tribal elders. Details of the agreement have not been publicly disclosed, but it is understood to include commitments to assist the affected families and ensure their safety during future military operations.

The incident, which occurred on May 19 in the Hurmuz area, had initially been attributed to security forces. However, the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), clarified that the attack was carried out by the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Despite this clarification, the local community demanded a transparent and independent investigation into the incident.

Following the agreement, the bodies of the deceased were buried, and the roads previously blocked by protesters were reopened. Local officials have pledged to meet with the affected families and announce compensatory measures in the near future.
