A jirga of the Mehsud tribe in Makin, South Waziristan, has strongly condemned recent mortar shelling and the forced evacuation of local residents, calling it a clear violation of human rights and constitutional protections.
The gathering, which included tribal elders, political leaders, lawyers, and students, said civilians were being caught in the crossfire of ongoing military operations. They demanded an immediate stop to attacks on populated areas and urged the state to treat the tribal population with dignity and respect.
The jirga emphasized that the people of Waziristan have always been loyal citizens and should not be treated like enemies. It also called for more development, education, and security reforms in the region to restore peace and trust.
