After burning for over three weeks, the Palisades and Eaton wildfires in Los Angeles County have been fully contained as of Friday, according to California’s Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire). These fires, which began on January 7, have been among the most destructive in the city’s history, resulting in approximately 30 fatalities and the destruction of over 10,000 homes across more than 150 square kilometers. The economic impact is estimated between $250 to $275 billion. While the exact causes are still under investigation, experts suggest that human-driven climate change, leading to reduced rainfall and drier vegetation, played a significant role in creating conditions conducive to these infernos.
