Saudi Arabia’s King Salman has issued a royal decree restructuring the Council of Ministers, with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman continuing to head the Cabinet and its existing members remaining in their positions.
The decree follows a review of previous royal orders governing the formation of the Council of Ministers and Article 9 of the Cabinet Law, which stipulates that the Cabinet’s term may not exceed four years and that it must subsequently be reconstituted by royal decree.
Under the restructuring, the current ministers will retain their existing portfolios, while the Crown Prince will continue serving as prime minister.
King Salman issued two additional royal decrees involving senior government appointments.
Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman was appointed chairman of the Board of the Local Content and Government Procurement Authority, replacing Bandar Alkhorayef, who was relieved of the chairmanship.
In a separate decree, Mazen Al-Sudairi was appointed chairman of the Capital Market Authority (CMA) with the rank of minister.
Al-Sudairi succeeds Mohammed Al-Quwaiz, who was removed from the position.
The decrees form part of the kingdom’s periodic restructuring of senior government bodies and appointments under Saudi law.
