Karachi is in shock following the discovery of three transgender women who were shot dead in the outskirts of the city, which has triggered anger and sorrow among the people. According to police, the victims were found near the Northern Bypass late Sunday and were both killed at close range. The Chief Minister of Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, commissioned a high-level investigation, and right-wing activists held demonstrations against Jinnah Hospital and demanded justice soon.
Although in 2018, Pakistan implemented a law that provides legal status and protection to transgender citizens, specific violence remains an overwhelmingly common occurrence. The government has promised to make arrests, although activists caution that justice in such cases takes time.
