An Italian military base in Iraqi Kurdistan was hit overnight by an airstrike, resulting in no casualties or injuries among the staff, said Defence Minister, Guido Corsetto according to a post on social media platform “X” by his ministry on Thursday. “Everyone is fine” added the minister, stated that he is constantly being updated by senior military commanders about the situation at the base.
Ministry sources later said a drone destroyed a military vehicle at the Erbil base, where Italy has been training Kurdish security forces. The drone may not have been fired at the Italian base intentionally, but rather hit it accidentally after losing altitude, they said.
