On May 6, 2025, Israel launched airstrikes on Yemen’s Houthi-controlled capital, Sanaa, targeting the main international airport and several power plants. The Israeli military claimed to have “fully disabled” the airport, including runways, civilian aircraft, and a nearby military base. The strikes were in response to a Houthi missile attack on May 4 that landed near Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport, injuring four people and temporarily halting air traffic .
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) issued a warning for civilians to evacuate the area before the attack. Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV reported that three individuals were killed in the strike. The Houthis vowed to continue their operations and support for Gaza until Israeli aggression ends .
This escalation marks a significant intensification of hostilities between Israel and the Houthis, who have been launching attacks in solidarity with Palestinians since Israel’s military offensive in Gaza began in October 2023. The United Nations has expressed concern over the growing regional instability .
