On January 30, 2025, an Islamabad district and sessions court sentenced two men to death for disseminating blasphemous content online. According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the Federal Investigation Agency in 2021, one of the convicts was apprehended in Islamabad for creating and sharing derogatory material about the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in a WhatsApp group. Both individuals were found guilty under Section 295C of the Pakistan Penal Code, which pertains to the use of derogatory remarks against the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Additionally, they received life imprisonment under Section 295B for defiling the Holy Quran, along with fines and further imprisonment under other related sections. The court noted that the convicts have the right to appeal the decision in the Islamabad High Court within 30 days.
