Iran Deputy FM Says No Contact with the U.S. Since Trump’s Return to Office”

Jarida Report

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Majid Takht-Ravanchi, has stated that since President Donald Trump’s return to the White House, there have been no communications between Iran and the United States. He emphasized that Iran plans its actions based on the policies announced by the U.S., indicating a cautious approach to future interactions.

During Trump’s previous term, the U.S. withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear agreement between Iran and several world powers. Following this withdrawal, Iran began scaling back its commitments under the deal. Efforts to revive the JCPOA have faced challenges, with recent talks between Iran and European countries described as “frank and constructive.” Takht-Ravanchi noted that another round of talks is expected within a month, though the date has not been confirmed.

Iran has expressed a willingness to return to the JCPOA framework, which involves curbing its nuclear activities in exchange for the lifting of sanctions. However, Takht-Ravanchi emphasized that Iran will not include non-nuclear issues in the negotiations, as was done in the original JCPOA discussions.
