India Urges Riyadh to ‘Mind Sensitivities’ After Saudi-Pakistan Pact

Jarida Report

India has urged Saudi Arabia to be sensitive of regional sensibilities following the new defence agreement between the kingdom and Pakistan, officials quoted. New Delhi observed that the country has had an old relationship with Riyadh and any security arrangement must not destabilise South Asia. Indian diplomats also packaged the request as an appeal to calm and dialogue rather than a fight with capitals all over the region weighing the strategic weight of the pact.

According to the analysts, the reaction of India can be characterized as Ankara-type of caution: to maintain ties with partners in the Gulf, but to ensure its own security calculus is preserved.
