Human rights activists have repeatedly called for the release of Hussam Abu Safia, director of Gaza’s Kamal Adwan Hospital, who has been held by Israel since December 2024. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is pushing US President Donald Trump to convince Israel to release him. “We also call on the president to demand that Israel release Dr Hussam Abu Safiya and all other kidnapped medical professionals.”
Al Jazeera says it is unclear whether he will be released as part of the ceasefire deal. However, Israeli publication Haaretz has reported that he was among five extra names approved overnight by the Israeli Government to be added to the list of Palestinian prisoners set for release
