Iceland Volcano Erupts Again, Forcing Evacuations

Jarida Report

A volcano on Iceland’s Reykjanes Peninsula erupted early Tuesday, marking its ninth eruption since 2023. Lava spewed from a 2.4 km-long fissure, prompting the evacuation of around 100 tourists and residents from the nearby town of Grindavík. The popular Blue Lagoon spa was also closed as a precaution. Authorities issued health warnings over toxic gas and airborne volcanic particles. Despite the dramatic eruption, no major infrastructure damage was reported, and international flights remain unaffected. Scientists say the region is entering a new phase of heightened volcanic activity.
