Govt Proposes Parliamentary Committee for Talks, But PTI Remains Unconvinced

Jarida Report

On January 30, 2025, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the government’s readiness to establish a parliamentary committee to continue discussions with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). This proposal comes in response to PTI’s demand for a judicial commission to investigate the protests of May 9, 2023, and November 26, 2024. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of dialogue for national progress and recalled a similar committee formed in 2018 to probe election rigging allegations. However, PTI’s Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, rejected the offer, stating that the government’s actions have not met the opposition’s demands.
