Govt Approves Import of 500,000 Tonnes of Sugar to Stabilize Prices

Jarida Report

To keep sugar prices affordable and ensure sufficient supply, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has allowed the private sector to import up to 500,000 tonnes of sugar. The decision, taken on the Ministry of National Food Security’s recommendation, comes amid concerns over high domestic prices. The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) will not be involved in this import, and no subsidy will be given. The move aims to prevent market shortages and discourage hoarding.
