Global Militaries to Analyze India-Pakistan Fighter Jet Clash for Technological Insights

Jarida Report

On May 8, 2025, a significant aerial clash occurred between Pakistan and India, involving Chinese-made J-10 fighter jets and French-made Rafale jets. Reports indicate that Pakistan’s J-10 aircraft shot down at least two Indian jets, marking a notable milestone for China’s advanced aviation technology. This engagement provides a rare real-world opportunity to study the performance of pilots, aircraft, and air-to-air missile systems, particularly China’s PL-15 and Europe’s Meteor missiles. Despite uncertainty about which missiles were used, experts are keen to analyze tactics and technological effectiveness. The clash is especially relevant amid ongoing U.S. and Chinese military preparations regarding potential conflicts in the Indo-Pacific region. Speculation continues over whether Pakistan used the export version of the PL-15 and how it compares to the Meteor in range and capability. The U.S. is concurrently developing the AIM-260 Joint Advanced Tactical Missile in response to growing concerns over the PL-15. European nations are also assessing upgrades to the Meteor system. However, the lack of confirmed details and the complexities of live combat make definitive assessments challenging at this stage.
