Gambhir Highlights Rohit and Kohli’s Crucial Roles in Champions Trophy

Jarida Report

India’s cricket coach, Gautam Gambhir, emphasized the significant roles of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the upcoming Champions Trophy, despite their recent underwhelming performances. Both players were part of the Test team that suffered a 3-0 series sweep at home by New Zealand, followed by a 3-1 defeat in Australia, ending their decade-long hold on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In response, they have returned to domestic cricket to regain form.

Gambhir expressed confidence in their contributions, stating, “They add so much value to Indian cricket… They’ve got to play a massive role (in the Champions Trophy).” He highlighted their passion and hunger to represent the country, noting their dedication to delivering for India.

India is placed in Group A for the Champions Trophy, with matches scheduled against Bangladesh on February 20, followed by games against defending champions Pakistan and New Zealand. Gambhir emphasized the tournament’s demanding nature, stating, “Every game is a make-or-break, so you can’t stop anywhere in this tournament.” He stressed the importance of winning all five games to secure the trophy, underscoring that each match holds equal significance.
