Four Women Drown, Child Missing After Car Plunges into Jhelum Canal

On May 14, 2025, a tragic accident occurred near Sara-i-Alamgir town along the Mandi Bahauddin road in Gujrat district, Pakistan. A family traveling from Jhelum to Rasul town to offer condolences experienced a tyre burst on their car near Bhalwal Gharbi village. The female driver lost control, causing the vehicle to plunge into the Upper Jhelum Canal. Four women—Sumaira Saqib, Naghma Bibi (42), Shahid Ayub (50), and Atiya Khalid (20)—drowned in the incident. A 7-year-old girl named Anabia remains missing. Another passenger, 40-year-old Ayesha Arif, managed to escape the submerged vehicle and survived. Rescue 1122 teams recovered the car and the deceased women, who were later pronounced dead at Sara-i-Alamgir Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.
