FCC Rules 27th Amendment Renders SC Powerless In Constitutional And Legal Interpretation

Jarida Report

The Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan has ruled that, following the 27th Constitutional Amendment, the Supreme Court of Pakistan no longer holds the authority to interpret the constitution and laws.

Justice Aamir Farooq, delivering the landmark verdict, clarified that before the 27th Amendment, the Supreme Court had the power to interpret constitutional and legal provisions. Under the new constitutional scheme, this authority now rests solely with the Federal Constitutional Court. The court also stated that it can review the constitutional validity of legislation and has the right to summon records of any case related to interpretation.
