Karachiites get a taste of Emirati traditions at World Culture Festival

Emirati culture, traditions and tastes dominated the 29th day of the ongoing World Culture Festival Karachi, as thousands attended the event titled ‘Flavors of the UAE’ at the Arts Council of Pakistan.

The event at the Jaun Elia Lawn brought the people of Pakistan closer to the unique customs, culinary delights, and music of the United Arab Emirates. UAE Consul General Dr Bakheet Ateeq Alremeithi, Sindh’s Culture and Tourism Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, and Muhammad Ahmed Shah, president of the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, graced the event as special guests.

An Arabic cultural tent welcomed visitors with traditional Emirati foods and drinks. The attendees enjoyed the warm, earthy flavors of kahwa and date tea, which was complemented by signature Emirati dishes like luqaimat, balaleet, and khabisa. Alongside these delights, the tent also featured traditional items such as a majestic white falcon, which captivated the onlookers and added an authentic touch to the celebration.

The hosts also prepared a feast for the eyes, as they gave a traditional Emirati sword dance performance coupled with lively Arabic music. The dance showcased the skill and elegance of Emirati folk traditions, providing guests with a taste of the UAE’s cultural heritage.

Speaking on the occasion, Consul General Dr Bakheet Ateeq Alremeithi appreciated the Arts Council for arranging the event that allowed them to showcase the Arab culture here in Pakistan. He also admired the hospitality shown by the people of Sindh, and said he feels a strong bond with both the culture and people of Pakistan.

Dr Alremeithi also announced plans for a future UAE-based festival dedicated to promoting Sindhi culture, in partnership with the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi and the Sindh Culture Department, to further deepen ties between the two countries.

Sindh Minister for Culture Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah lauded the UAE’s participation in the World Culture Festival and said that Pakistan was proud to have hosted such diverse international cultural representations.

Addressing the gathering, the arts council’s president, Muhammad Ahmed Shah, said that cultural exchange programs were important for strengthening the relationship between Pakistan and the UAE. “Programs like these are essential for nurturing our friendship and understanding,” he said. “Pakistan and the UAE share a bond of brotherhood that will continue to flourish through such cultural initiatives.”

From food to music, each aspect of the ‘Flavors of the UAE’ event showcased the rich Emirati heritage and simultaneously celebrated a spirit of friendship and cooperation. The World Culture Festival has already brought together over 450 artists from 40 countries, which makes it one of Pakistan’s largest cultural celebrations to date. The festival will continue until October 30, showcasing more performances and exhibitions.
