Egypt has refuted claims that a recent court ruling endangers the historic St. Catherine’s Monastery in the Sinai Peninsula, following concerns from Greek and Orthodox Church authorities. The monastery, established in the 6th century and recognized as the world’s oldest continuously inhabited Christian monastery, became the subject of a land dispute when a Sinai court ruled that the land it occupies is state-owned public property, though the monastery retains usage rights.
