Dubai Streets Flooded With Pets Abandoned By Dubai Expats Fleeing The Country

Jarida Report

The streets of Dubai  are filled with dogs, cats and even rabbits. A number of dogs and cats there have been found tied to poles on the street or left in cages by their owners to leave the city amid missile strikes in the United Arab Emirates.

Travel restrictions, relocation costs, and delayed paperwork have also forced some owners to consider euthanasia for perfectly healthy pets, several news outlets across the Gulf states have reported, citing veterinarians and rescue groups.

There are more than two million pets across the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In Dubai and across the region, particularly, cats outnumber dogs by a two-to-one margin, with 64.98 per cent of pet owners being cat lovers, according to reports. Now, the abandonment reports have left animal activists, vets, and shelters overwhelmed.
